Febco 825Y backflow cover

Febco 825Y backflow cover: The 825Y is the one small RP where the relief valve hangs off the side instead of underneath. A cover cut for a Watts 009 will pinch it. That single difference is why this model gets its own pattern and its own page.

What it is

The Febco 825Y (LF825Y lead-free, 825YA angle pattern) is a bronze Y-pattern reduced pressure assembly in ¾" through 2". Two spring-loaded checks sit in the wye body, four test cocks along the top, ball-valve shutoffs at each end. It has decades of installed base in irrigation and light commercial service and is still a spec favorite in parts of the South and West.

The feature that matters here is the relief valve. On most small RPs it hangs straight down under the body. On the 825Y it comes off the side of the wye, 4" to 5½" out from the pipe centerline, with its discharge pointing down.

What matters for the cover

Width, not just depth. The relief valve's lateral offset means the cover needs clearance to one side of the pipe where other RPs need none. Our 825Y pattern allows for it; a cover sized only to the body length will sit on the relief valve and hold it against the fabric.

Keep the side discharge open. The relief valve under the body has to drain. Set the cover so the base closes to the pad around the assembly but never seals under the relief port. On the 825Y that port is beside the assembly, so check the cover's base on that side in particular.

Length is moderate. 12" at ¾", 17¾" at 2". The 20 × 20 and 24 × 24 closed-top covers are the price-list match at ¾" and 1"; at 1½" and 2" the 30 × 24 is the closest fit of the 1"–2" group, with the 36 × 24 in reserve for OS&Y or union-end builds.

Stocking

Febco-spec territory runs through California, the Southwest, and pockets of the Southeast. Backflow testers meet the 825Y constantly on older irrigation systems and can carry the ¾" and 1" covers as truck stock. Irrigation supply branches in Febco markets stock the 20 × 20 and 24 × 24. The newer in-line Febco 860 has replaced it on much new work and takes a different cover.

Common questions

Will a Watts 009 cover fit a Febco 825Y?
Not well. The 825Y's relief valve hangs off the side of the body, and a cover patterned for a bottom-relief RP pinches it. Order the 825Y pattern.
Which cover fits a 1" LF825Y?
The 24 × 24 closed-top cover (DS2424), which allows for the side relief valve and ball-valve handles. The 20 × 20 fits the ¾".
Is this a heated enclosure?
No. Sub Zero Covers are insulated, unheated covers (R-13 standard, R-30 extreme weather). They are not ASSE 1060 listed enclosures. Where a utility or spec requires a Class I heated enclosure, that is a different product; ask sales before quoting.
Is this an official Febco product?
No. Sub Zero Covers is an independent manufacturer. We pattern covers to the published dimensions of Febco assemblies; Febco does not endorse or supply them.
